May 13, 2026

The Otto Township Supervisor’s meeting was held on May 13, 2026, at The Otto Township Office Building. Board members present were Supervisors Gerard Rettger, Dennis Mong (was on call) and Christopher Kaluza, Secretary Jeannine Drummond. Visitors in attendance include Tina Crandell, Noah Jordan, Mel Splain, Bill Cochran, Sandy Lasher, Greg Smith, John Cradduck, and Colleen Ross.

Christopher Kaluza called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Gerard motioned to add a land separation for John & Judy Barrett and Dwayne & Elizabeth Shaw to the agenda, Christopher 2nd AIF.

Visitors were welcomed. Sandy from O-E Community talked about the new garden boxes that were set in Eldred this Spring. She wanted to discuss the possibility of putting some in Otto Township. The Supervisors are going to look more into the liability and where they could be set.

The Supervisors went to an executive session to discuss personnel issues with the Police Department.

April meeting minutes were reviewed. Gerard motioned to accept, Christopher 2nd AIF

The treasurer’s report, bills and bank statements were reviewed. Motion Christopher, Gerard 2nd AIF.

Park Report- Jeannine presented a quote of $1,270.00 for weed spraying at park. Gerard motioned to accept Christopher 2nd, AIF.

Residents asked about having pickle ball lines painted on the basketball court at the park. Supervisors don’t have an issue with it if they are done to look professional.

Road Work Report- Christopher read the road report that was supplied by road crew worker, Alex Hitchcock. The road crew will be switching to summer hours of Monday-Thursday 6am-4pm starting on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Police Report- None

OLD BUSINESS:

Updates Kansas Branch Project-Pipe has been delivered. Road crew has been working on trimming trees and brushes. Road work is set to start on May 19, 2026.

Parking on Main Street and Grant Street- No new updates

Clark Street Bridge- No updates. Bridge inspection was done on May 13, 2026.

Policy for pre-trip inspections- No new updates

Ordinance for water runoff from driveways- Gerard presented Ordinance #78.  Gerard motioned to advertise, Christopher 2nd, AIF. Ordinance will be voted on at the June Meeting.

Updates to Police Dept computers and technology-No updates

DCED Grant Application for 2026- No Updates

NEW BUSINESS:

The auditor suggested having the Fire Tax account have checks and deposits all set-up to go through that account. Jennine will order checks and have the Tax Collector write the Fire Tax amount in a check to the account. The amount of Fire Tax collected to date for 2026 will be transferred to that account from the General Account.

Noah Jordan gave the Supervisors a contract for Hometown Days, which will take place July 17 and 18th, stating what is needed from the Township. The Supervisors agreed to the contract. Gerard motioned to also provide a Part-Time officer for the event, Christopher 2nd AIF.

A new application for a Part-Time Police Officer was reviewed. Gerard motioned to hire Gregar Smith, Dennis 2nd, AIF.

Gerard presented and read Resolution # 155 for Personnel pertaining to a supervisor working in an emergency situation. Gerard motioned to accept Christopher 2nd AIF.

The Tax Collector, Crystal Burris, was exonerated for $965.00 for delinquent 2025 per capita tax, Jeannine will send to the collection agency.

Christopher motioned to approve the subdivision for John & Judy Barrett and Dwayne & Elizabeth Shaw, Gerard 2nd AIF.

Christopher motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:14 pm. Gerard 2nd AIF.
